Insurance Claims FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Your deductible is the amount you will pay out of pocket before your insurance begins to pay for your repair. If you have a $500.00 deductible, and your total repair cost is $1950.00, your insurance will pay the remaining balance after you pay the $500.00 towards your repair. Therefore, it does not make sense to go through your insurance company if the repair cost is $195.00 and your deductible is $500.00.
An insurance premium is the amount of money that an individual or business must pay for an insurance policy. Therefore, it is the amount you pay your insurance company (monthly, semi-annually, or annually) to insure your vehicle.
We would never reject an insurance claim for a rock chip repair. However we would like to point out that opening an insurance claim for a repair that has a low “out of pocket” cost may not be cost effective for the vehicle owner in the long run. As was stated to me by an insurance agent, “A claim is a claim, regardless of how small, an can be used as a reason to increase your premiums, if not immediately, then in the near future”.
YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO CHOOSE ANY SHOP OF YOUR CHOICE FOR AUTO GLASS REPAIR OR REPLACEMENT. Just do your research online through Yelp, Google, Facebook, etc. Just because your insurance carrier is trying to direct you to one set of shops does not mean you have to choose those shops, especially if they can not service your needs in a timely manner! If you need to have an installation completed as soon as possible, and your carrier directs you to a handful of shops that will take a week before they can assist you, seek service elsewhere! Most legitimate glass shops are already linked in electronically to TPA’s (Third Party Administrators) such as Lynx Services and Safelite Solutions.
Your insurance carrier or the TPA (third party administrator) they employ will electronically dispatch the work order to the location of your choice. They will usually conduct a three way conference call to confirm that the shop of your choice is the correct one in their system and assist in scheduling you at your convenience.
You will pay your deductible to the vehicle service provider after the work order or service is completed.
